New National Adventures Ahead…
Hello, Oxford. Hello, World.
We are Headlong Theatre, and for the past 50 years, we've been shaking up the UK’s theatre scene. As we hit this major milestone, we're stoked to announce some exciting new partnerships and initiatives. First up, we’re connecting with our roots in Oxford, where we started as the Oxford Stage Company in 1974.
Fresh Collaborations
We’re teaming up with the Oxford Playhouse and the University of Oxford’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities as we create a new base in Oxford as part of the Arts Council’s National Portfolio transfer programme.
Oxford Playhouse Partnership
Our collaboration with the Oxford Playhouse gives us a home base to experiment with new ideas and present our main stage touring work. We'll be running on-stage workshops for our Headlong Origins programme, helping early-career theatre directors. Look out for "A Raisin in the Sun" in Oxford from October 2-5, 2024.
Schwarzman Centre Partnership
With the Cultural Programme at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, we’ll be diving into the intersection of drama, cutting-edge research, and tech advancements. It’s a space for our artists to innovate and reimagine the future of touring theatre.
Expanding Our Reach
We’ll strengthen our commitment to distributing world-class theatre across the nation with new partnerships at Leeds Playhouse and Octagon Theatre Bolton. These collaborations will help us create new productions, grow our audience, and improve accessibility and sustainability practices.
Celebrating 50 Years with New Plays
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re commissioning five new plays from both big names and rising stars. This includes works by Roy Williams, Chloe Moss, and AJ YI. We’re launching a fundraising campaign to raise £50,000 to support these new works. Visit our Write Tomorrow’s Classics page for more info on how to get involved.
Onward and Upward
We are pumped about these new partnerships and commissions. They’re key to powering our mission of bringing high-quality mainstage drama to audiences nationwide.
Here’s to the next fifty years of innovative and thought-provoking theatre.
