Erin Doherty on The Glass Menagerie

Tell us about your character.
Laura is overwhelmingly cautious of the world around her. Due to past experiences, she is sensitive to (and dependent on) the sustainment and stabilisation of the Wingfield apartment

All of the characters in The Glass Menagerie have complex relationships with each other. How are you going to approach bringing them to life effectively?
I think a trust in the text and the people you’re collaboratively creating this realm with is the key.

What research have you done to help inform your approach to depicting the character?
A lot of research into Tennessee Williams and his sister Rose’s relationship. Predominantly though, I’ve explored disability and the effect that has on your relationship with the world.

What do you like about your character and why?
What I really love about Laura is her voice, it may not be frequent but it is reliable and pure.
